Grants to help groups reuse and recycle

Posted onPosted on 16th Sep

Two local groups have been awarded grants through the Reduce, Reuse, Recycling Fund run by Veolia (Nottinghamshire County Council’s waste contractor).

Designed to support projects that inspire people to think differently about waste and resources, the fund offers grants to groups, schools and charities that are committed to helping Nottinghamshire to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Among the latest projects to receive funding through the awards are:

Clipstone Miners’ Welfare Community Trust, which was awarded £176.52 towards its Clipstone Youth Club Recycling Bins.

The youth club has sought to increase the amount it is recycling by introducing new ‘friendly’ recycling bins. and would like to set up a recycling station.

The community trust, which runs the group, believes that the earlier recycling good habits can be encouraged, the longer-term the benefits are.

Sam’s Workplace, Rainworth, which was awarded £812.55 for workshop tools.

Sam’s Workplace offers work experience placements to adults with learning disabilities. Within a workshop setting, it recycles as much as possible to produce goods for sale within their community cafe.

Donations are increasing and varied, and it wants to replace hand tools with power tools to expand its product range and complement the learning levels of their work experience placements.

Funding through the Reduce, Reuse, Recycling Fund can be granted for a variety of projects and activities, including workshops, practical equipment, education and awareness raising. It is for projects that encourage people to think about their waste as a resource.

This can be anything from swap shop events to repair workshops; community gardens that make use of reused, reclaimed, or recycled materials; to food growing, food waste reduction initiatives and composting schemes.

It could be campaigns to promote and increase recycling and reduce recycling contamination at home, school or work; or local events; or creative and innovative ideas that encourage people to recycle – from arts projects to recycling bins.
