Good Ofsted rating for The Garibaldi School

Posted onPosted on 28th Jul

The Garibaldi School has again been rated Good by Ofsted inspectors.

They recognised that pupils at the school, part of Nova Education Trust, treat each other with care and respect.

Inspectors said students work hard to live up to the school’s values of pride, respect, and achieve.

Young people there are polite and friendly, and they engage with staff well. Leaders work hard to develop pupils’ character and make sure they are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Inspectors noted this is a calm and purposeful school. Pupils know that staff expect them to behave well, and most do. Any low-level disruption in lessons is resolved promptly so that pupils’ learning is not affected.

Head teacher James Aldred said: “I am absolutely delighted that Ofsted agree with school leaders on what an amazing place The Garibaldi School is. Garibaldi is a true community school that thrives on the positive working relationships between the school and all members of the community.

“The hard work of staff and pupils is represented through the report, as is the positive experiences that students and parents fed back to the inspection team.

“While we understand the work is never done and we will always continue to reflect on how we can make our provision even better, I am rightly proud of all involved with the school and the significantly positive feedback I received from the inspection team.”

The treport said leaders think deeply about the curriculum they provide, providing a broad and ambitious range of subjects, including in the sixth form. The curriculum prepares pupils well for further study at post-16 and beyond.

Inspectors said the curriculum in subjects is well organised, identifying the essential knowledge that students need to learn. Teachers, including those in the sixth form, were said to have strong subject knowledge.

Pupils learn how to respect themselves and others. They show consideration when engaging with views, beliefs, and opinions that are different from their own.

Inspectors said no forms of discrimination are tolerated in the school and its young people are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

Ryan Hawley, executive head teacher, added: “It is excellent that The Garibaldi School has been judged to be an Ofsted rated Good school, which provides an environment for learners to feel safe, develop, grow and achieve.

“I am extremely proud of the school community as it continues to evolve as part of the Nova Education Trust.”

Nova Education Trust chief executive Ash Rahman said: “Garibaldi is a school which provides an environment for learners where they are inspired, developed, and motivated to achieve.

“We now look to the future as we further develop our vision to create truly transformational education for the young people and the communities we serve.”
