Good causes get £500 from community lottery

Posted onPosted on 22nd Dec

Good causes are benefiting from an extra cash injection of £500 each thanks to the Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery prize draw.

Bilsthorpe Emergency Team, Sherwood Archers, Newark R&M Cricket Club, Newark Breast Cancer Support Group, Newark Brazil FC, and Newark and District Community First Responders were picked at random from more than 60 groups when inners were announced at a live event hosted by Newark and Sherwood District Council on its Facebook page.

Funds distributed through the draw are generated by players of Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery who opted to donate income from their ticket sale to Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery Central Fund, rather than one particular good cause.

Coun David Lloyd, council leader, said: “Recent months, more than ever, have proven the vital role that charities, voluntary and community groups play in supporting people, communities and shaping places.

“Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery enables charities to raise funds while ensuring financial support for a sector that is closest to our communities and their needs. The addition of the prize draw is another exciting opportunity for the council to support community lottery registered organisations raise vital funds for their good causes.

“I encourage any good cause in the district to sign up to the lottery for free and take advantage of the rewards on offer.”

Good causes that register with Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery are in with a chance of winning in the draws and benefit regularly from the lottery itself.

There are no set-up costs or admin fees to register.

Since its launch, the lottery has raised more than £34,000 for good causes with more than 60 local groups signed up.
