Go Green for September

Posted onPosted on 7th Sep

Building on the success of last year’s Go Green for September campaign, Nottinghamshire County Council and its waste and recycling partner, Veolia, is again trying to improve recycling habits across the county.

This year’s programme promises to deliver activities and events based on all things green, including a guest appearance by local hero Robin Hood.

He tackled the recycling picking line head on to mark the launch of this year’s Go Green for September campaign at the Mansfield Materials Recovery Facility, where staff hand pick incorrectly recycled items, known as contaminants, from a conveyor belt.

In September residents can learn how to recycle even more of their rubbish to reduce their weekly waste to just a single bag. Nottinghamshire locals will also be asked to share their own tips and recycling efforts via social media for a chance to win prizes, ranging from thermal cookers to bamboo toothbrushes and reusable sandwich wraps.

The aim is to make it as easy as possible for people to make small changes that will make a big difference.

Competitions will be running throughout September, and residents are invited to follow the campaign programme to find out exactly what is happening and when.

Coun Neil Clarke, cabinet member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “It just goes to show that everyone in Nottinghamshire is doing their bit in the battle against climate change. It’s not everyday that you see Robin Hood hand sorting recycling but it is those small changes we can all make everyday that make such a big difference.

“It was fantastic to see how well the people of Nottinghamshire got behind the campaign last year, and this year we’re hoping to go one better and ask that they share their successes, tips and tricks that can help us all in 2022.”

Julie Adams, contract performance manager for Veolia Nottinghamshire, added: “We’re excited to once again turn the county green during September and are delighted that Robin Hood could join us on our journey. We know that people in Nottinghamshire want to recycle but despite our best collective efforts we’re still seeing a large proportion of items that can’t be recycled locally end up in the recycling stream. This September we want to turn things around and recycle more of the right things.”
