The Armchair Club and Mansfield Building Society have again combined to make a significant donation as part of their partnership to support local sport.
Revolution Gym, a boxing/kickboxing/MMA gym for children aged four up to adults, has received a total of £500 to put towards equipment and training at its new base on Redcliffe Street, Sutton — £250 each from the two organisations.
The Armchair Club, a group of businesspeople who have been raising money for local sports clubs and individuals since 1982, has teamed up with the building society to help the sporting community,
The gym, whose fighters have featured in the News Journal over the past few months, is led by owner and head coach Neil Huntley.
It boasts a large variety of members, from those attending for extra-curricular activity to people looking at developing the sport to a professional level. There is a fight squad that competes in shows nationally and internationally, including again taking part in the WFC World Championships in Hungary representing England.
The gym is fully inclusive and, for example, has students with cerebral palsy, neuro divergence, and behavioural issues who have benefitted from the gym and training, improving both their mental and physical health.
Revolution also aims to give young people a positive focus to achieve their goals and spend time in a safe, healthy environment rather than roaming the streets.
Due to the expansion in membership over the last few years, new and larger premises were found, but requiring a lot of refurbishment and equipment, including appropriate flooring and a matted area for MMA training and kickboxing.
The gym also wants to continue to train junior coaches.
