Girl’s snow globes bring joy to care home

Posted onPosted on 16th Dec

Ashfield School Year 7 student Ruby Giugno has been busy making beautiful snow globes with her mum, Natalie, to brighten up the festive season for a local care home and hospital.

The school said: “This lovely gesture is something that the pair have done for a number of years and they felt that under current circumstances, with many care home residents unable to see their families, it was even more important to spread some festive cheer.

Ruby (pictured top with snow globes, teacher David Hart and classmate Caleb, mentioned what she was doing to Ashfield’s head teacher, John Maher, and he was so impressed by the idea that he arranged for snow globe making sessions to be introduced into pre-Christmas science lessons for Year 7, with the estimated 400 globes being donated to local care homes and King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton.

He said: “Ruby was so enthusiastic when telling me one lunchtime about the amazing family effort to bring Christmas joy to the elderly that I thought we should recognise and support the idea. I also thought of the art, design and science curriculum opportunities the snow globe project could offer and it appears to have snowballed from there (if you pardon the pun).”
