The leader of Nottinghamshire County Council has paid tribute to the generosity of local people after more than £35,000 was donated towards the cost of county’s new Great War Memorial.
Coun Kay Cutts said that she had been moved by the overwhelming generosity and respect shown by the people of Nottinghamshire.
The Great War memorial has been commissioned by Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council, working with the seven district and borough councils, Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood and Rushcliffe.
Including the names of all 13,482 Great War fallen from the county, the memorial on the Victoria Embankment in Nottingham is due to open this summer. As well as Service personnel, it will include the names of civilian casualties.
