Geared up to drive beasts of the road for Rotarians

Huthwaite-based Taylor’s Transport and Kirkby Rotary Club hit the road again for another successful Annual Drive a HGV Truck Experience at Donington Park, writes Paul Horton.

The event was a support attraction to the Leicestershire circuit’s Convoy in the Park, British Truck Racing Championship, International Truck Prix, and other races as well.

Around 150 people took the chance to drive one of Taylor’s Scania fleet of trucks, helping the Rotary club to raise around £1,700.
Taylor’s Transport Driver Training School instructors helped participants drive on the open road in two of the company’s state-of-the-art articulated lorries and trailers, on a set course within the race circuit grounds.

The driving instructors sat alongside the public novice drivers and gave instruction on how to tackle driving the lorries in return for a donation to Rotary.

Alan Taylor, managing director of Taylor’s Transport, said “It’s always a pleasure and a continued commitment to work alongside the Rotary club on this annual event — and with any community-based organisation or initiative.”

Rotn Neil Lancashire added: “Once again we would like to thank Alan Taylor and Taylor’s Transport Group for donating the trucks and time given by his instructors. We thoroughly enjoyed this annual event.”
