Funding boost for sport and recreation

Posted onPosted on 25th May

Mansfield MP Ben Bradley (pictured) has urged miners’ welfares and sport and community organisations to take advantage of new funding.

The MP hosted a Sport England event in Parliament as MPs were briefed about the support available for sport and recreation facilities in coalfield constituencies.

Following Ben’s Westminster Hall debate on sport in coalfield communities in October, the Chancellor committed to supporting miners’ welfare facilities with a new funding pot that was announced in the autumn Budget.

Sport England’s Community Asset Fund will deliver £2m of Exchequer investment to support improvements to sport and recreation facilities in local miners’ welfares and sport and community organisations.

During the event, Ben received further information about the fund, application process and plans for the scheme over the coming months.

“I’ll be writing to my contacts within those welfare organisations and would encourage anyone who runs local miners’ welfares to get in touch with my office,” he said.

“I look forward to meeting Sport England again soon and I will be supporting local bids so that we can bring some of this Government funding to Mansfield and Warsop.”
