Free summer of fun in Ashfield

Posted onPosted on 30th May

Ashfield District Council’s summer events programme is jam-packed with free events for everyone – including Platinum Jubilee celebrations and a new event for Ashfield.

The summer of events starts in June with the Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday, 5th June, from 11am – 3pm, on Kingsway Park, Kirkby. Residents are invited to bring their picnics and blankets to the park to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

There will be background music, community stalls, giant garden games, inflatables, and a free face painter.

The Big Jubilee Lunch is followed by Titchfield Park’s Centenary Celebrations on Saturday, 18th June on Titchfield Park, Hucknall.

The council will be hosting a huge fun day on the park for the anniversary of the park first opening in 1922. A variety of activities and entertainment is lined up for the event, which runs from 1pm to 6pm, including live music from local bands The Spitfires, and The Jury Dogs; giant garden games; small funfair rides; stalls including food festival favourites Blondie Brownie Bakes, and Fig Tree; a taster session from Titchfield Park Bowls Club; and much more.

Outdoor cinema returns to Selston Country Park on Saturday, 23rd July, when residents can vote for the film they would like to see.

Hucknall High Street will host a Food and Drink Festival on Sunday, 21st August. There will be returning favourites along with new stalls for 2022, so far more than 40 featuring the best food and drink producers from the East Midlands.

Sutton Lawn will host the new event for 2022, Ashfield Day, on Saturday, 27th August. It will be a celebration of the people, history, community, and future of Ashfield and will feature unique entertainment and music alongside Sutton’s outdoor cinema screening.

Coun Samantha Deakin, portfolio holder for Parks, Town Centres and Neighbourhood Services, said: “This year we have a fantastic events programme. We have ensured that all the events are spread across the district to allow all residents the chance to experience a fun day out. We will release the full details of each event closer to the time, but we wanted to give residents a taste of what’s to come this summer.

“We know that the past couple of years have been tough and this year we are determined to have the biggest and best events programme yet!”

Council leader Jason Zadrozny added: “As a council, we pride ourselves in bringing our communities together. This year, our event’s programme is our biggest and best ever. These events are our way of thanking everyone who did so much during the pandemic. There is something for everyone as our parks play host to our summer of fun.”
