Free health event at Mansfield Civic Centre

Posted onPosted on 18th Nov

Free NHS health checks are to be offered at Mansfield Civic Centre on Wednesday, 23rd November, from 2.30pm to 4pm.

The event, which is being hosted by Mansfield District Council, will provide people living across the district the opportunity to drop-in to the Civic Centre to have their health checked out.

No appointments are necessary, people are required simply to visit the reception in the Civic Centre, on Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield.

A team of GPs and nurses will provide services such as weight and body mass index (BMI) checks and blood pressure and pulse readings. The checks are designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia. The clinic will help people by offering advice on how to lower this risk.

Coun Andrew Tristram, Mansfield District Council’s portfolio holder for the environment, said: “We are pleased to be able to host the NHS health checks here at the Civic Centre. It is important that everyone across the district gets the chance to have a free NHS health check to keep them healthy.

“The check doesn’t take long but the NHS GPs and nurses can help people identify if there is a higher risk of developing a condition such as high blood pressure or diabetes. They’ll also provide plenty of help and advice to make the lifestyle changes needed to stay healthy.”

During the afternoon there will be specialist nurses offering advice about diabetes, respiratory concerns, mental health and heart disease. Information will be available around diet and exercise and how to cope with stress and general anxiety.

A representative from New Leaf will also be attending to provide advice to people who want to stop smoking. In addition information and benefits advice will be provided to people who are carers and work.
