Two fun events with free activities and food have been organised in Ashfield to give residents a chance to find out about the wide range of things going on and support available in their areas.
A variety of different organisations will be setting up stalls and displays at the friendly sessions. Among those planning to be there are Age UK, Ashfield Homes, Dental Hygiene, Everyone Active, Inspire Culture and Sure Start.
Freebies will be handed out, there will be tips to pick up on healthy eating and activities for everyone to try for themselves.
The events are being organised and run in partnership by Ashfield District Council’s Locality and Community Empowerment Team, Self-Care Hub, Self Help Nottinghamshire and Ashfield Community Partnership.
They will form the start of a new Help Your Health project, designed to get people more active and more involved in their local communities and as a result to improve mental and physical health and help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
As well as the activities and information available, people will be able say what they think are important health issues in their area and what support they feel is lacking.
The first event is on Wednesday, September 28 at Summerhouse Children’s Centre, Clare Road, on Sutton’s Leamington estate from 1pm to 4.30pm.
The second is on Friday, September 30 at Hollidays Hill Park, Beacon Drive, Kirkby, starting at 4pm and continuing until 6pm.
Nottinghamshire County Council Community Safety Officer Vicky Cropley said: “These events will have something for everyone, whatever their age or interests. We hope to see lots of people come along and enjoy them. We think many will be surprised at what is available on their doorstep!”
Ashfield district councillor Jim Aspinall, portfolio holder for health and wellbeing, added: “These fun events are part of Ashfield District Council’s drive to help improve health inequalities
across the District, I would hope as many people as possible, are able to come along to enjoy the fun. Any activity helps contribute to health and wellbeing.”
