Foodbank for pets launched

Posted onPosted on 16th Sep

A foodbank for dogs, cats and small animals to support pet owners in Mansfield and Ashfield through the cost-of-living crisis has been set up by two friends.

Sarah Meehan, of Mansfield Woodhouse, and Sammy Russell, of Sutton, have launched Toby’s Doggy Foodbank as a Facebook group.

Sarah, who named the foodbank after her dog, Toby, said: “With the ever increasing prices in the cost of living, some people may find it hard.

“Some may be faced between the choice of feeding themselves, their children, their dog, their cat or other small animal.

“No one should ever be in this situation, so myself, Sammy and many others are here to help.

“We are not a registered charity, we just want to reach out to anyone who may be struggling and help in anyway we can — there is no judgement or shame in asking for a little help.

“If you genuinely need food, worming tablets or flea treatments, please just drop us a message and we will do our best to try to help — but sadly we can’t help with vet’s bills.

“We just want people to know we are here if you need us.”

The foodbank does not accept monetary donations, but will accept donations of dog food, worming tablets and other pet food for cats, rabbits and hamsters.

Donations can be left at The Rufford pub on Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield; Nature’s Medic CBD on High Street, Mansfield Woodhouse; Rex Pets Hotel on Creswell Road, Cuckney; Staff Of Life pub, Sutton; and Personalized 4 All in Handley Arcade, Mansfield.
