Five-day 142-mile run in Arctic Circle

Posted onPosted on 31st Jan

Sutton man Ashley Radford is to tackle a gruelling charity challenge later this month as he aims to raise money for the Children’s Bereavement Centre, Newark.

Ashley, who works for Mansfield District Council, is to tackle a five-day ultra marathon in the frozen depths of the Arctic Circle in Sweden.

He aims to cover 230km 142miles of frozen Arctic tundra over five consecutive days and could experience daytime temperatures as low as -40 degrees.

Beyond The Ultimate describes its second ice race of the year as: “The days are short, runners should expect long periods running in darkness, following a marked route by head torch.

“The race is self-sufficient and you are responsible for carrying your entire kit, food, safety equipment and water.”

Ashley said: “I would love for you to support my chosen charity, Children’s Bereavement Centre.  Their work is outstanding in supporting local children and their families affected by death and terminal illness.

“Thank you for your donations. I and the charity really do appreciate all help.”
