Ferret racing fundraiser

Posted onPosted on 9th Mar

Kirkby Rotary Club is presenting its annual Ferret Race Night at St Wilfrid’s Church Hall, Kirkby, on Saturday, 24th March from 7pm.

Tickets for the fundraiser are £7, including a pie and pea supper, and are available from any club member or by ringing 07831 691326. Those attending are invited to bring their own drinks and glasses.

Rotarian Neil Lancashire, the organiser, said sponsorship of individual ferrets and complete races was going strongly, but there were still some gaps available for residents and businesses to fill.

“With five ferrets in each race the chance of winning is obviously one in five every time,” he said.

“There are ten races. It’s a great night out for all the family – there are no little furry creatures running about loose, and everything is done by the facility providers according to strict animal welfare requirements.”

Rotaran Philip Hurt, president of Kirkby Rotary Club, said: “This event is an important part of our current community work.

“It follows soon after our very successful Craft Fair and Swing Night in February. We’ll be allocating the proceeds to local, national and international charities and good causes – all part of the club’s ongoing programme of fundraising and community support.”
