Kirkby Rotary Club staged a charity ferret race night at St Wilfrid’s Church Hall, Kirkby.

President-elect Rotn Philip Hurt said: “It was a brilliant effort that attracted a record number of attendees, almost 100.”

One of the charities that will benefit is the food bank at Kirkby Woodhouse, set up by volunteers at St John’s Church, Kirkby Woodhouse in 2013 to offer essential foodstuffs to deprived families and to advise on debt and benefits problems.

Rotarians staffed the betting tote. Animals and race facilities were provided by Krazy Ferret Ladies.

Rotn Neil Lancashire, event organiser, commented: “We’re delighted with the result, which has exceeded our expectation. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the evening.”
