Faceless lockdown band The Lemon Sherbets to release debut album

Posted onPosted on 12th Jan

An anonymous new local band, born during lockdown, is releasing its debut album in February — on yellow vinyl and CD.

The three main members of The Lemon Sherbets — Herbert, Ben and Amadeus — describe themselves as an art collective that doesn’t really exist.

They recorded their album — titled More Affordable Lemons — at Superfly Studios, Ollerton, over the last two years and signed an album deal with London-based 7A Records last September.

Herbert said: “It all started with a song called Between Two Smiles, which was written during the first lockdown. We put together a demo remotely and decided to send it into BBC Introducing — and they played it on the radio.

“We kept going and recorded a couple of EPs at Superfly Studios and now we are releasing our debut album on 7A Records.

“We can’t believe it really and can’t thank the team at 7A enough for believing in our music, which was created right here in the heart of Sherwood Forest.”

7A Records described the new album as filled with great, fun power-pop and said it was bound to put a smile on your face.

They added: “Several of the songs have a Beatles’-influenced sound to them, not least The Magical Mr E, which is a tribute to The Beatles’ road manager, Mal Evans. Between Two Smiles was inspired by The Zombies’ Care of Cell 44 from their Odessey & Oracle album.

“Check out the Lemon Sherbets, we guarantee you won’t be disappointed.”

7A Records was founded in 2015 to solely release The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz’s MGM singles, but the success of The Monkees’ reissues quickly opened the door for other exciting projects and 7A Records has carried on.

“I was blown away when I heard The Lemon Sherbets’ sound,” said founder and music executive Glenn Gretlund.

“I knew I had to try to sign them and I’m absolutely delighted to be releasing their debut album on 7A.”

More Affordable Lemons will be released on 23rd February, and can be pre-ordered on Amazon, go to https://www.7arecords.com/

The group also hopes to make the album available to buy locally. You can find more information on Twitter by following @thelemonsherbs
