Eyes down for unique way to support three charities

Well-known charity fundraiser Yvette Price-Mear has come up with a unique way to celebrate her upcoming 60th birthday and love for bingo.

With 2021 also marking 60 years of Mecca Bingo, Yvette, of Mansfield Woodhouse, has pledged to visit 60 Mecca clubs before her milestone birthday.

Her Charity Mega Mecca Bingo-a-Thon across the UK will help three causes — the charity that she founded, Pet Bereavement Support, the Carers Trust and 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Scouts.

Yvette, pictured, started in Scotland, travelling 677 miles to visit six Mecca clubs in Forge, Wishaw, Paisley, and three in Glasgow in celebration of National Bingo Day.

Her mammoth tour will continue on nine other weekends and end in Mecca’s oldest club, Rosehill, on 19th December — Yvette’s 60th birthday.

Yvette and her husband, Tony, provide respite care for adults with learning disabilities and two of them — 40 year-old Joanne Allardyce and 54 year-old Louise Bolz — helped with collecting donations in Scotland, raising £873.73.

Yvette said: “I knew I wanted to do something really special for my 60th birthday and when I found out that Mecca was also turning 60 this year, it just felt right to create a 60 club bingo-a-thon. I’m grateful that I’ll be able to raise money for my own charities as well as the Carers Trust, having lots of fun along the way.”

Mecca is providing Yvette with free bingo and refreshments at each club along her journey, any winnings from which will go straight into the fundraising pot.

She also has a GoFundMe page, https://gofund.me/8caec3f9, where she hopes any additional support will help her to reach her £1,000 goal.

A Mecca spokesperson said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Yvette on her amazing Mecca Bingo-a-Thon.

“She’s been a bingo fan for more than 30 years, so we can’t think of a better way to celebrate both of our 60th birthdays.”
