Extending hand of friendship to refugees and asylum seekers

Posted onPosted on 26th Aug

Mansfield charity Maun Refuge, which provides a helping hand and a friendly face when refugees and asylum seekers arrive in the district, is looking for volunteers to help its work.

Potential volunteers are invited to an event at St Peter’s Centre, Mansfield, on Friday, 20th September, at 7pm, when they can hear real-life stories from refugees, information from volunteers, and learn how to get involved.

Chair Barbara Nestor said: “Volunteers are at the heart of our charity, supporting people to build a happy, safe, and secure future in Mansfield, whether through befriending, collecting donations, guiding or advising. We just want refugees to feel welcome here.

“You will gain invaluable experiences, skills, friendships, and a warm sense of community. We are looking for people who are compassionate, friendly and reliable.”
