Ex-Stags stars at charity match to launch Lashes Foundation in memory of Evie Wilson

The family and friends of a Clipstone teenager who died in July are coming together to ensure she will never be forgotten — and that her kindness for others lives on.

The Lashes Foundation is being set up to remember Evie Wilson, 13, and help local families.

A charity football match at the weekend, featuring former Mansfield Town FC stars, was watched by more than 1,000 people.

Evie was the daughter of former Stags player Lee Wilson, who is now a popular member of Clipstone Cricket Club.

Mansfield Town FC Legends — managed by Wembley-winning captain and former manager George Foster — played against Clipstone FC Legends at Clipstone Lido Ground. George, who brought Lee to the Stags, said what had happened was horrendous and that the turnout for the match and the former players travelling to play showed the respect people have for Lee.

Another former Stags’ manager who took part, Steve Parkin, added: “This is the least ex-players can do, support him. We always had a good spirit at the football club.”

Evie’s mum, Emma, told Mansfield 103.2 at the charity match: “I am sure Evie is watching down on us now and is mesmerised by the amount of love and support that she has got out there. She would absolutely love this and be in awe.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The support has been overwhelming and I cannot thank everyone enough.”

Dad Lee added: “It is overwhelming. What happened to Evie is a tragedy for my family and the community because she was well loved.

“For people to come out and support the foundation we are making in her name is unbelievable.

“She was loving and caring and doing very well at school.

“She was always wanting to help people… she would ask me for money, which she used to buy sweets for kids at the youth club. She was an amazing girl.”

Lee said the foundation was being set up to ensure her name and kindness for others would live on.

He explained it was being called the Lashes Foundation because Evie loved fake eyelashes.

“It will help young, old whatever age, whatever their problems,” he added.

“You might have a lad wanting to play football and times are tough, so we will get him the football boots he needs.

“You might have an elderly person who needs help getting a mobility scooter. We will do whatever we can to help make people’s lives better through Evie’s name and the Lashes Foundation.

“This has destroyed me, but today has been some comfort.”

A pair of signed football boots from England star Harry Maguire was among the raffle prizes.

Evie’s godfather, Micky Williams, who played with Lee at the Stags, said: “We are trying to raise a bit of money so Evie’s name can live on.

“Evie was very popular, very kind. We’re hoping the money raised for the foundation means her name can live on and can be used to help others in less fortunate circumstances.”
