Drainage work in Mansfield moves to Ravensdale

Posted onPosted on 23rd Jan

Severn Trent’s £76m investment in Mansfield to bring sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) to the town to help reduce flooding is continuing, with work today starting in the Ravensdale area.

The company has been working in the town centre, but is now working on Ravensdale Avenue and on Sandy Lane towards Hibbert Road, before moving onto other streets in the area.

Helen Purdy, of the Green Recovery Project Team said: “Our work in Mansfield continues to make great progress, and with the work in the town centre continuing we’re excited to now bring SuDS into the heart of the communities.

“We’ll be mainly looking to install permeable paving in this first stage of work on Sandy Lane, so this means we can continue to keep the parking for everyone, while being able to manage rain water and reduce flooding. So it’s a real win win.”

Severn Trent’s work started on 23 January on Sandy Lane, where teams will work in sections towards Hibbert Road laying the new paving.

Work is expected to take three months to complete.

“While we know this will cause a little disruption in the area, which we’re sorry about for in advance, the work will bring big benefits to everyone living the area,” added Helen. “Once the new paving is laid, it will slow down and reduce rainwater to help reduce the risk of flooding, and still be able to be parked on.”

“When this project is completed, those living and visiting Mansfield will be able to enjoy a greener town, that’s protected from flooding while having more green spaces and areas to enjoy – there’s so many benefits to this project, and we’re excited for the community to enjoy them when we’ve finished everything in 2025.”
