The demolition of the Victoria flats on Princes Street, Mansfield, is paving the way for a new era of housing for the area.
Using state-of-the-art equipment, contractors Total Reclaims Demolition have already knocked down the community centre and are making progress with the demolition of five blocks of flats.
The rubble and timber extracted from the site will be cleaned up and recycled. Work is due to be completed in June.
The council is looking at a range of new housing options for the site. Once a decision has been made, consultation with local residents will take place as part of the planning application process.
Visiting the site, Mayor of Mansfield, Kate Allsop, said: “It is so uplifting to see the progress that has been made here. These flats have seen years of neglect and have been an eyesore for the local community.
“Their clearance heralds an exciting new development of housing that will enhance the area and demonstrate our commitment to providing quality homes for the people of Mansfield.”
