Local dads are being invited to test their track skills and put the pedal to the metal at a special Father’s Day event at Four Seasons Shopping Centre, Mansfield, this weekend.

For one day only, on Sunday, the centre will be opening its Dads’ Lounge – with comfortable settees and video games to give dads the chance to relax and take a break.

The special setting will also play host to a driving challenge, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

“As well as offering a place to unwind, we’re inviting diving-mad dads to climb inside our inflatable racing car and take part in our grand prix challenge,” said Rebekah O’Neill, Centre Manager at Four Seasons. “We have an ‘anonymous mystery racing expert’ on hand to offer advice and update the leaderboard, and he will also be posing for pictures with the drivers and, of course, children.

“The driver who completes the challenge in the quickest time will win some amazing prizes,” she said.

The winner’s prize pack includes a chocolate car and trophy from Thorntons; a remote-controlled BMW car from Beales; a ‘No.1 Dad’ mug from Card Factory; a Top Gear book from WH Smith; and a fantastic family driving experience from Debenhams.

“The Dads’ Lounge will be open from 11am to 3pm,” said Rebekah. “We’re making it a fun day for all the family, so our free Buzzy B Club will be running at the same time.”

Now in its eighth year, the Buzzy B Club for children has a regular programme of activities throughout the year, each with a different theme and usually including a craft workshop so that children are able to take something away with them.

“On Father’s Day we will be inviting children to join our mascot Buzz and make a card and decorate a cupcake for that special person in their life,” said Rebekah. “We’re going to make it a fun day to remember.”

The Dads’ Lounge and Buzzy B Club will be held at Four Seasons Shopping Centre on Sunday, from 11am to 3pm.
