King’s Mill Hospital has a second CT scanner to assist in the early detection of disease and improve treatment planning and monitoring.
CT (Computed Tomography) scanners use X-rays in a more sophisticated way to create a computerised picture of “slices” through the body.
It is a non-invasive and quick way to look inside the body at organs, soft tissues, blood vessels and bones, and can accurately diagnose many conditions.
Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, which runs the hospital, said the Optima CT660 was a significant investment.
Jayne Burkitt, radiology services manager, said: “The second scanner will dramatically improve patient care by increasing scan availability for inpatients, shortening hospitals stays (as scans can be performed on an outpatient basis), improving waiting list times and improving imaging to treatment times.
“The CT service has also increased its provision towards a seven-day working service.”
