A Mansfield mum who promotes affordable family-friendly days out and events in the area has won a county accolade for her work.

Gemma Morris launched The Morris Girls Facebook and Instagram pages to share what’s on locally and in Nottinghamshire, including weekend and school holiday guides.

Now she has been named Community Champion at the Nottingham Baby and Toddler Awards.

“I’m still in a bit of shock. I genuinely didn’t think I would win and just felt so grateful to be nominated,” she said.

“When I arrived, I looked at the table plan and noticed five of my best friends’ names on there. They had completely surprised me and booked tickets in secret. What absolute cheerleaders they were too!

“The category I was in was one of the last to be announced and the love I felt in that room when announced as the winner was amazing.

“It was a room full of activity providers, most of whom I’ve connected with via social media and whose groups I share on my page. Everyone was so lovely and the fact they all have amazing activities and events makes it so much easier for me to run my page.”

Gemma also thanked her husband and daughters, saying without them the page wouldn’t exist.

The Nottingham Baby and Toddler Community Awards were created to celebrate individuals who contribute to building a strong baby and toddler community in the county.
