Council launches new CCTV system

Posted onPosted on 31st Oct

Mansfield District Council has replaced its old fibre-optic CCTV system and launched a new state-of-the-art wireless system.

It said the upgrade was necessary because much of the council’s equipment had neared the end of its useful life.

Work to replace the old system began in September 2015 and included:

Replacing some cameras with new high-definition technology.
Erecting wireless signal poles in some parks and open spaces
Refurbishing the control room with energy-efficient split-screen monitors, a new IT system and a new digital recording technology.

The new wireless system offers CCTV security in previously hard-to-reach areas and demonstrates better quality visuals to help keep Mansfield safe 24/7.

The refurbished CCTV headquarters are manned 24 hours a day, all year round, by trained and experienced operators, who work closely with staff in the control room at Mansfield Police Station.

Live pictures can be sent through to the police control room for officers to be despatched. Operators also have police radios to be of immediate assistance.

The council is now offering local businesses, schools and other councils a CCTV monitoring and data management service to better protect the community and give organisations peace of mind to help to detect and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhoods.

Cllr Mick Barton, portfolio holder for public protection, said: “We are proud of the work that has gone into this project as we strive to maintain excellence in public safety.”

Mansfield mayor Kate Allsop said: “We have invested in the next generation of CCTV security for the district with live monitoring 24/7 and our dedicated team play a vital part in preventing crime and keeping our communities safe in our district.

“Local businesses can really benefit from our investment as the council’s experienced officers can monitor buildings or land on their behalf so that they can focus on important day-to-day business tasks.”
