Organisations in Rainworth and Blidworth that work to help others were showcased by the chair of Newark and Sherwood District Council, Coun Jean Hall, during the first leg of her personal challenge to celebrate the district.
Over two weeks — one in March and one in May — she aims to walk and cycle across Newark and Sherwood to showcase the area, promote eco-friendly travel, and connect with community groups.
Coun Hall is raising funds for local charities — Nottinghamshire Mind, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, and Newark Women’s Aid.
While in Blidworth she visited Rainworth and Blidworth Boxing Club and Blidworth on the Move at Passion Church (pictured below).
The following day she walked from Blidworth to Bilsthorpe via Rainworth.
There she called in to see Sam’s Workplace (top), which provides work experience placements for adults with learning difficulties.
She also stopped at the Social Action Hub in Rainworth (pictured below) to talk about its vital work in the local community.
She finished her day in Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum (below) to see the mining stories it is preserving for the community and visitors.
Jean said: “It has been an absolute honour to serve as chair of Newark and Sherwood District Council.
“I have had an incredible year attending events across the district. I’ve been deeply moved by the vibrant and diverse community we have, and to celebrate this amazing district I decided to take on the challenge to raise funds for three brilliant charities I have supported during my time as chair.
“I will walk and bike the length and breadth of our lovely district, while raising funds for three very important charities that do vital work in our district.
“I’m also connecting with some of our fantastic community groups along the way.”
“Your donations can make a real difference. Please consider contributing to these worthy causes, and together we can support mental health, protect our wildlife, and aid those in need.”
