More than 3,600 people have signed up to join a new Facebook group launched to help those in Hucknall affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

The group has seen dozens of volunteers post thousands of leaflets through doors throughout the town, urging people who may be self-isolating or stuck at home to get in touch if they need support with things like shopping, dog walking or prescription collection.

Group founder and Papplewick Green resident Kate Edwards said: “The idea is that we have volunteers who are each willing to ‘adopt’ a street or location in the town, and then be on hand to those most in need, now and as the outbreak continues. We want to make sure no-one in Hucknall is left feeling alone and without help at this difficult time.”

Kate, who moved to Hucknall in 2017, says she’s been staggered by the response.

“I’ve been really inspired by the sense of community here since I came to Hucknall a few years ago, and to see people looking out for each other in this way is truly amazing,” she said.

“So far we’ve managed to cover around 90 per cent of the streets in the town in just a few days.

“I’m really grateful to those who have come forward to help out.”

The Facebook page is being run with the support of Kate’s administration company, Another Mother Admin, and the leaflets were printed free by Nottingham Printers on Papplewick Lane, Hucknall.
