Conservation volunteers honoured

Volunteers from across the area were rewarded for their efforts to help the environment.

The Greenwood Community Awards were handed out at Rufford Country Park, Ollerton, by partnership chairman Coun John Knight, who presented accolades to community groups and individual volunteers.

“We will only notice when friends groups aren’t around because they do such a marvellous job,” he said.

Nominations were received from groups and organisations for conservation work carried out over the past year, towards the creation of Greenwood, Nottinghamshire’s community forest.

Retiring chairman of the Friends of Greenwood Community Forum, the Friends of Brinsley Headstock’s Colin Barson, was presented with an engraved spade.

Greenwood awards were presented to:

Chris Allin and Paul Naylor, Newstead and Annesley Country Park, for team effort.
Corinna Brown, Friends of Yeoman Hill Park, Mansfield Woodhouse, volunteer.
Mark Etches, Maun Conservation Group, behind-the-scenes volunteer.
Steve Horne, Friends of Thynghowe/Warsop Footpaths Group, volunteer.
Sheelagh Holland, Instep Walking For Health, Mansfield.
Liam Skillen, Hornby Plan-tation, Mansfield, young volunteer.
Sherwood Foragers Walking For Health Group.

Also nominated and receiving certificates were:
Kate Allen, Friends of King’s Mill Reservoir, volunteer.
