Posted onPosted on 31st Oct

Christmas is coming to Ashfield with three events planned to celebrate the start of the festive season.

Sutton, Kirkby and Hucknall will all host special events, concluding with the switching on of lights in the respective town centres at 7pm, including 3D feature lights.

There will be carols, entertainment on a stage, Christmas markets, and hot food and drinks to get everyone in the festive spirit.

Coun Chris Huskinson, executive lead member for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing at Ashfield District Council, said “Our Christmas events are always the most popular fixture for residents and we are pleased to bring them back with a bang.

“We can’t wait to see everyone enjoying themselves, and our town centres filled with a buzz of excitement.”

The first event will be on Thursday, 23rd November, in Sutton Market Place car park, from 4pm to 7.30pm.

There will be a packed stage with performances from Leamington Primary Academy, St Mary Magdalene Primary School, Dalestorth School Choir, and Regency Dance Centre in the town, as well as Star and Stage musical theatre group, Huthwaite. The stage entertainment will finish with a grand finale by Breanna, and Empire Music School, Kirkby.

As well as the live entertainment there will be almost 50 stalls for visitors to browse on Market Place car park, King Street, and Low Street.

A week later, on Thursday, 30th November, Kirkby will host its Christmas event in Kirkby Plaza, from 4pm to 7.30pm.

Entertaining on a main stage will be youngsters from Kingsway, Orchard, and Greenwood primary schools, Fortitude Danceworks, and Christine March School of Dance in the town.
Closing the event will be the Red Hot Band.

Kirkby’s Christmas market will feature 50 stalls, with a variety of food, gifts and crafts on offer across Kirkby Plaza and on Lowmoor Road. Moor Market will be open late for the event with stalls and food inside. Fairground rides will be on Ellis Street.

On Wednesday, 6th December Hucknall Market Place car park and High Street are the venue for the town’s festive event, from 4pm to 7.30pm.

The stage will feature choirs from the National C of E Primary School, Hucknall; Linby-cum-Papplewick C of E Primary, Hucknall Flying High Academy, and Hucknall Torkard Ensemble Choir; dance groups Elise Florence Dance Company, Phase One School of Dance, Believe Academy Dance School, and Kirsty Ceroc Dancers, and live music from Hucknall Ukulele Group and Izzy Pop Show Band.
