Posted onPosted on 15th Nov

The first of Ashfield District Council’s annual Christmas light switch on events is this week on Thursday, 17th November, 2022, on Sutton Market Place car park, from 4.30pm-7.30pm.

The event will feature live singing from Leamington Primary Academy, Sutton; Croft Primary School, Sutton; Dalestorth Primary School, Sutton; Rolls Royce Choir Group; Ellie, a solo vocalist; and a sing-along with Anna and Elsa.

As well as free face painting, fun fair rides, and Santa and his sleigh, there will be a Christmas market with more than 40 stalls selling a range of food, drinks, and gifts, including bath bombs and wax melts; hand-printed T-shirts, bags and cups; jewellery; seasonal wreaths and flowers; etched glasses and personalised items; pet accessories; craft kits; bee-themed products; luxury fudge; authentic arancini and cannoli;  British rum; artisan donuts; cupcakes and brownies; fresh roasted coffee and hot chocolates; mac ‘n’ cheese; chutneys and sauces; Nigerian food; flavoured cheeses; hot pork cobs; and more.

The switch on of the Christmas tree, lights, and 3D feature lighting will take place around 7pm.

All council-owned car parks will be free in Sutton for the event. The available car parks will be New Street car park (46 spaces) and New Cross Street car park (56 spaces).

The Christmas events for Kirkby and Hucknall will follow Sutton’s event on:

Thursday 24 November 2022 – 4.30pm – 7.30pm. Kirkby Plaza & Ellis Street, Kirkby

Wednesday 30 November 2022 – 4pm – 7.30pm Hucknall Market Place Car Park and High Street

Robert Docherty, portfolio holder for Place and Communities, said: “We can’t wait to see our town centres buzzing with thousands of visitors, once again. Our Christmas light switch on events are always hugely popular and we are excited to host three fun filled events. The Council’s Summer of Fun was a successful series of free family events, and the Christmas events will be an excellent conclusion of the Council’s events programme.

“Christmas officially starts in Ashfield in November, so join us as we spread the festive magic across the district with our annual Christmas celebrations.”
