Residents in Mansfield district are being alerted to changes in their bin collections over Christmas and New Year.
Households whose collections fall on Mondays will have their waste collected two days earlier than usual because of the way the bank holidays fall.
People whose blue bins and glass bins are due to be emptied on Boxing Day (Monday 26 December), will now have them emptied on Christmas Eve (Saturday, 24th December).
Green bin and glass bin collections that are due on Monday, 2nd January, which is the New Year’s Day Bank Holiday, will take place instead on New Year’s Eve (Saturday, 31st December).
All other Mansfield District Council bin collections over Christmas and New Year, including those scheduled for the Christmas Day Bank Holiday on Tuesday 27 December, will go ahead as usual.
Bin crews will always take side waste when emptying the recycling bin as long as it is presented in a cardboard box or paper bag alongside the blue bin.
Crews will also take one bin bag of side waste along with the first general waste bin collection after Christmas. The bag should be securely tied and presented at the kerbside next to the green bin.
Residents who have subscribed to the council’s garden waste service will have their last brown bin collection of 2022 between 1 December and 14 December.
The council reminds residents that their bins should display their house number and advises that bins must be out by 6am. If crews are unable to empty bins due to parking issues or severe weather, residents should leave their bin out and the crew will return as soon as possible.

Coun Andy Burgin, portfolio holder for Environment and Leisure, said: “We would encourage residents to recycle as much of their waste as they can in their blue bins over Christmas and check what they can recycle to avoid contaminating their waste.
“There are some forms of plastic, paper and cardboard that can’t go in the blue bin in Nottinghamshire, such as card or paper which has glitter or foil on it.
“Unfortunately, no extra side waste can be taken for glass bin collections in Mansfield and residents should ensure the lids can be fully closed to ensure collection.
“We know Christmas tends to generate more glass waste. If people have more glass than they can fit in the bin, we advise them to hold on to it until the following glass collection or take it to their nearest recycling point.”
