Chip shop fries up a treat to thank care home key workers

A Shirebrook chip shop fired up its fryers once more to cook a fish and chip treat for keyworkers and residents at Richmond Care Home.

Model Chippy wanted to show its gratitude to the dedicated key workers at Richmond Care Home on Recreation Road.
Owner of the popular chip shop, Malcolm Allsop, said: “The staff at Richmond are working so hard to keep their residents safe.

“Everyone can see the great work they’re doing, and this was the best way we could thank them.”
Model Chippy has been temporarily closed since 25th March following Government guidance to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

Malcolm delivered the fish and chips to staff at Richmond Care Home, leaving the box of hot food on the doorstep while keeping a safe distance.

Kate Birch, care home manager, added: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Shirebrook community.

“Cooking fish and chips for everyone in our home is a huge treat – not least for our hardworking kitchen staff.”

Richmond Care Home, a 40-bedroom residential and dementia care home, has been closed to visitors since the country went into lockdown on 23rd March.

The care home’s community activities coordinator, Natasha Westwood, said: “It’s a difficult time for our residents. We can’t go on our usual outings to local cafés and restaurants, so this has given everyone an extra lift.”
