Ravenshead-based friendship charity Cornwater Evergreens has given the former Warehouse Clearout premises on West Gate, Mansfield, a new lease of life by opening its new charity shop.

The new store is much larger than its former home on Queen Street. 

Volunteer Sue Brown (pictured), who has supported shop manager Sharon Baum since the first Cornwater shop opened in May 2008, said: “Cornwater’s friendship groups are a lifeline for so many people, but the charity relies on donations, fundraising and income from the shop to keep them running.

“Helping Sharon in the shop is my way of supporting Cornwater and older people in my community.

“I help out twice a week and have done all sorts in the 13 years I’ve been a volunteer, but my favourite part is catching up with customers I’ve come to know well over the years. 

“I’m hoping we see many new faces in the new shop too so Cornwater can bring friendship, fun and support to even more older people in the area.”

Sharon added: “Thirteen years ago we took our first steps into retail and today we’re one of Mansfield most-loved charity shops. We have our dedicated volunteers to thank for that as well as our loyal customers.

“Our stock is all high quality and well-priced, and sells quickly.

“So there’s always something to do in the shop — from unpacking donated goods and putting them on display to helping customers and keeping the place clean and tidy. 

“We’re looking for people to lend a hand in our new shop, so anyone who’d like to volunteer their time for a few hours or days a week can find out more by visiting our website or calling the charity.

“Or why not pop in for a chat. We’re a small, friendly team, and we have plenty of fun while helping support older people in our community.”

Cornwater Evergreen supports older people in Ravenshead, Rainworth, Blidworth and Mansfield and also runs a memory club.
