Charity needs your help to create new ‘forever’ home

Posted onPosted on 10th Dec

A Mansfield charity that faces losing its home for the past 12 years is appealing for the public’s help.

Hetty’s, which helps families affected by drug and alcohol misuse, said it had been shocked to learn that its premises in Marlborough House, Woodhouse Road, will have to close.

However, the charity is excited to “have found and fallen in love with a building that we would love to call our forever home.”

It plans to own the building, rather than rent premises as previously, to give it the freedom to expand services.

However, Hetty’s now needs the public’s support to turn its dream into a reality and has launched a Sponsor A Brick fundraising campaign.

Chief executive Debbie Knowles said: “Hetty’s needs your help, support and love to raise funds for a forever home to secure our work and future for Nottinghamshire families.

“Whilst we are aware that not everyone can make a monetary donation, there are numerous other ways that you can have an impact — creating your own fundraisers, such as cake and coffee mornings, tombolas, and sponsored events like fun runs and skydives — or by placing a donation box within businesses in your local community.

“Alternatively, you can get involved by becoming a Hetty’s fundraising volunteer.”

Hetty’s has been providing support to families affected by a loved one’s substance misuse for 25 years.

It has grown from a single support group in 1996, founded by a group of mothers, into the development of an array of vital services, supporting and protecting more than 250 families and their loved ones every month.

Hetty’s empowers individuals to take control back of their lives, including physical, psychological, mental and emotional health and wellbeing.

Debbie added: “Tragically, after 12 years of making our premises, Marlborough House, a friendly, caring home-from-home for Hetty’s clients and the powerful life-changing work we deliver, Hetty’s was shocked to be informed our precious building is heartbreakingly being sold.

“We are very aware of how in a moment a change can impact all our lives. The sale of our building and the very foundations the service has been built on has been a devastating blow to us all, leaving staff and volunteers feeling lost and uncertain for the future.

“But Hetty’s wants to recognise this as an opportunity for a positive fresh start. Hetty’s is dedicated to making a stand for families affected by substance misuse, placing a stamp on Nottinghamshire and creating a way for Hetty’s to always be a part of your community.

“We need a forever home — a home that nobody can rock, threaten or remove; a home that will have a bright future, with developmental growth for families, children, volunteers and the wider community for many years to come.

“Exciting news is that Hetty`s has found and fallen in love with a building that we would love to call our forever home.

“Hetty’s has a clear vision for the future. Demand for Hetty’s services continues to rise, so ownership of a premise will not only give Hetty’s the freedom to build on our existing services, but the opportunity to expand our charitable trading activities and volunteer opportunities, to raise self-sustained funds, ensuring security and longevity for essential family support in the future.”
