Mansfield-based charity APTCOO (A Place To Call Our Own) is appealing for willing volunteers to help them transform an allotment into an accessible growing space for families with children or young people with an additional needs.
Working in partnership with the Trustees from the Mansfield Allotment for the Labouring Poor, the charity has acquired an allotment space at its Quarry Lane site and needs help to transform it.
The site will be used by the charity to provide outdoor activities for families with children or young people with an additional need and/or disability by introducing them to growing their own fruit and vegetables.
A spokesman said: “There will be opportunities for learning, development and progression, supporting someone to improve their outcomes by focusing on what they can do, not what they can’t do.”
A community challenge day will be held on Friday, 16th October from 9.30am at the site on Quarry Lane.
There will be a range of tasks suitable for any age or ability to take part. Refreshments will be provided but volunteers must wear suitable clothing and footwear.
