Chance to join a lifeskills project at Takeover Radio

Posted onPosted on 25th Mar

Ashfield-based Takeover Radio, which offers free media training services to help young people build their confidence and develop employability skills, is offering new work experience openings.

Its latest opportunity, funded by the Coalfield Regeneration Trust, is called Life Skills.

The project focuses on young adults, aged 18-25, who are struggling to find work.

It promises to help participants improve their skills.

Project leader Adrian said: “We are inviting up to 20 participants over the next few months (up to October) to join us at the station once a week, for around two hours per session, for two to four sessions.

“After this time participants can stay on with us as long as they feel they need support.”

The project’s activities will involve covering local news events from the Ashfield area. That will give participants the opportunity to go out into their community, work in a team and develop a range of transferrable skills used in a professional workplace, such as researching, planning and organising; understanding and fulfilling a team role; writing and literacy; editing and other IT skills that are used as part of radio and media work.

All participants will benefit from free training as part of the work experience opportunity, providing them with the chance to boost their confidence and self-esteem, as well as improve their people skills.

Their participation in a unique voluntary work experience could also provide an interesting talking point at future job interviews and networking opportunities.

Anyone interested should email their CV to [email protected]

Applicants will then be invited to the radio station for a short interview to discover how Takeover Radio can best help them.
