Celebrations across Nova Trust schools

Posted onPosted on 18th Aug

The multi-academy Nova Education Trust has paid tribute to its post-16 students across all its sixth forms on their exam achievements on A-Level results say.

After beginning their further education in the middle of a global pandemic and having to undertake their studies throughout national lockdowns, remote learning and home isolations, the post-16 class of 2022 have today received the results of their efforts.

Ashfaq Rahman, chief executive of the trust, said: “Today’s results reflect an extraordinary effort from the students and the staff that have supported them.

“Despite two years of disrupted learning, our young people have shown immense resilience and tenacity and our staff have been outstanding in how they have navigated students and parents through the first set of formal examinations since 2019.

“I would like to offer my sincerest thanks to all staff, parents and governors for their work and support, and congratulations to all our students — my very best wishes to them for the future.”

At Meden College, Warsop, there was a 100% pass rate, 63% of students leaving with A-Level grades A*-B. All of their university applicants have been accepted to either their first or second choice of university and will go off to places such as Oxford, Warwick, Loughborough, Nottingham, Manchester, Swansea, Bradford, Hull and Liverpool.

Headteacher Mr Smith said: ”We could easily identify and name individuals whose personal achievements have been outstanding but what makes this bunch of young adults so special is their collaborative achievements. They have faced everything together. They have always supported one another through melt downs, through trauma, through personal loss and through COVID.

“They’ve shared resources, revision techniques, shared knowledge, setting up working groups to bounce ideas off one another and to help each other improve. Everything they have done they have done together and today they got to celebrate together. There is no finer example of what it means to Work Hard and Be Kind!

“I am so proud of everything these young adults have achieved. They have worked so hard throughout these last two years of A-Levels and despite the challenges they faced, have been so determined to get the A-Level results they truly deserved. It is now time for them to move on to the next chapter in their lives and I wish them all the very best!”

Newark Academy Sixth Form saw 100% of students achieve A*-E grades in all subjects. As a result, all students have secured their next destination placements, be that university, apprenticeships or employment.

Chris Fisher, headteacher, said: “We are incredibly proud that 100% of our students achieved progression through to their preferred destinations. After a turbulent two years, students and staff have worked incredibly hard together to secure brilliant outcomes. As a Newark Academy staff team we couldn’t be more proud of our amazing students and what they have achieved.

“Students results are always a team effort and I would like to recognise and thank our parents for their support also. We wish students the best of luck with the next chapter of their lives and very much look forward to hearing of their future success.”

Students at The Garibaldi School collectively achieved the highest A-level results in the Forest Town school’s history.

James Aldred, headteacher, added: “Despite the impact of the pandemic, this wonderful group of young people have never faltered in their commitment to achieving the very best they can.  Not only in terms of grades but in terms of their own development too.  I am so proud of them all.

“This is the first-time students have sat exams since the start of the pandemic. 30% of all grades awarded to our students today were a Grade A or A* which is a phenomenal achievement.

“One of our highest achieving students is Adam Jephson, who secured three Grade As in Computer Science, Physics and Maths.  Adam has secured a degree apprenticeship with Rolls Royce.”

Ellethea Hawley joined Garibaldi from another school to undertake her sixth form studies and achieved some fantastic results. She said of her time at the school: “I am delighted with the results I have achieved.  I am so grateful for the support I received from all teachers at the school and excited to start the next chapter in my life.”  Ellethea goes on to study Sports Rehabilitation at the University of Hull.

The majority of students have secured their preferred destinations ranging from degree apprenticeships in Nursing, Management and Engineering as well as university places studying Astro Physics, Illustration and Criminology.

Ben West, director of Sixth Form said “I am proud of our students’ achievements this year, which reflects their outstanding attitudes to learning and the positive relationships they have formed with their teachers. We look forward to welcoming students back to hear about the next steps in their journey.  They will be a true inspiration to younger students.”
