Celebrating songs of the Guides

Posted onPosted on 7th Sep

Around 400 people attended a flower festival celebrating Songs The Guides Sing.

Staged in Hanson House, Linby, which is a pack holiday and training centre run by Girlguiding Nottinghamshire, the festival featured more than 30 floral arrangements created by Guides, Brownies and Rainbows as well as Guide Leaders and members of the Trefoil Guild.

All the displays illustrated songs linked to Girlguiding — from the floral interpretation of Campfire’s Burning and a vibrant Mexican-themed display capturing Our Cabana to the mini-garden outside inspired by lines from Little Peter Rabbit Had A Fly Upon His Nose.

The festival was the inspiration of Eileen Harvey, a long-standing member and supporter of Girlguiding Nottinghamshire and a friend of former County Commissioner Dulcie Hanson, in whose name the funds were raised to open the house in 1975.

“Hanson House continues to make an important contribution to Girlguiding in Nottinghamshire and it was lovely to welcome so many Guiding members and supporters to the festival,” said Eileen.

“There were certainly lots of happy people there — and plenty of praise for the displays, for the scrumptious homemade cakes and for the team who worked so hard to stage the event.”

While enjoying the floral arrangements, visitors were also able to find out more about volunteering with Girlguiding Nottinghamshire.

In addition to an ongoing need for unit leaders and helpers, there are many non-uniformed roles for volunteers offering ad hoc help.
