Celebrating Armed Forces Day in Kirkby

A jam-packed feast of entertainment for all the family will bring Kirkby Plaza to life on Saturday, 24th June to celebrate Armed Forces Day, including music from the 1940s to the noughties.

The event will start at 10am with Hucknall and Linby Brass Band playing and a service to mark the day.

From 11am the stage will be set to celebrate music from the decades, including local star Alex Ross, R & B duo Benj & Benji, a tribute to Elvis and a fusion of blues and reggae from renowned guitarist, Tim Hain’s Jamside Up! to conclude the show at around 5.30pm.

Budding performers from around Ashfield will also line up in front of some well-known judges for the Active Ashfield Factor final and Princesses Elsa and Anna will take to the stage for a Disney Sing after mingling with the crowd.

The event will feature free activities, including pavement art funded by First Art, a walkabout magician, information stands and market.

Coun Amanda Brown, portfolio holder for health and wellbeing at Ashfield District Council, said “This is a great opportunity for families to come along to the Plaza to show their respect for our Armed Forces and have a fantastic day out.

“The event will also include health promotion and is part of Nottinghamshire’s Smokefree Summer, an initiative supported by a wide range of partners across the city and county, working together to create smoke free zones at summer events, especially where children are present.”
