Celebrating 150 years of Pleasley Pit

Posted onPosted on 15th Jul

More than 1,700 visitors celebrated at Pleasley Pit’s 150th Anniversary Gala and saw a Lancaster Bomber fly past (pictured).

The gala, organised by visitor centre manager Deborah Bramwell and volunteers from Pleasley Pit Trust, included live music, folk singers, family fun and the chance to explore the heritage museum with engines running throughout the day.

A model railway exhibition showcased a miniature Mansfield to Worksop railway line and Mansfield to Pinxton — the oldest running commercial railway in England.

Pleasley Pit is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument and has been restored and maintained by the Pleasley Pit Trust volunteers, managing partners William Saunders and the Land Trust, a green space management charity.

Deborah said: “Seeing visitors engaging with all the activities on offer and enjoying the music played throughout the day was wonderful to see.”
