Caring Guides

Inspired by the Clean For The Queen campaign, Guides volunteered to help clear Kirkby’s Portland Park of litter in a bid to make the area better for everyone.

The 13 girls involved were members of 1st Kirkby-in-Ashfield Guide Unit and the litter pick enabled them to complete the community action clause of their latest Challenge badges.

“It takes 12 months to complete each badge and the girls decided they wanted to finish this year’s set of challenges by doing something to both mark The Queen’s 90th birthday and to help make our local park better for everyone,” explains Guide Leader Claire Sharman.

The Guides, aged from 10 to 14, were assisted by John Tattersfield, from Ashfield District Council, who provided the equipment and identified the spots most in need of the girls’ attention.
