Mansfield District Council hosted its second Car Show on Mansfield Market Place, which saw 42 vehicles line up on display.

Stunning vehicles included a Morris 1800, an Aston Allegro, a Mini Cooper, a Ferrari 355 GTS replica, and a vintage fire engine from Mansfield Fire Museum.

Three prizes were up for grabs.

The public voted for their favourite vehicle for the People’s Choice prize, which was a £100 cash prize donated by John Sankey Estate Agents.

John Sankey, an avid car fan, attended the event with his own 1976 Rover p6 3500L VIP and presented the winners, Neil and Mel Hill, from Mansfield Woodhouse, with their prize and certificate after displaying their 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88.

Second-place winners, Dave and Wendy Brown, from Mansfield Woodhouse, were the Deputy Mayor’s choice with their 1931 Lagonda. They won a £50 cash prize.

John Dexter, from Clifton, was the Lucky Draw prize winner after his name was selected at random from a list of all exhibitors who attended the event. He displayed his 1969 Plymouth Valiant and won a £20 voucher to spend on Mansfield Market.

The event was a hit for families as well as car enthusiasts, with free face-painting and craft activities for children, as well as free-to-play giant games and live music.

Members of the public also supported the Royal British Legion by sponsoring a knitted poppy and attaching it to netting for the council’s Remembrance Day display. There is still time for the community to help attach the poppies and donate to the Legion this half-term on Mansfield Market Place, during the Halloween hunt from 24th to 28th October, 11am to 2pm.

So far the public has helped to raise more than £330 for the project, but there are still thousands of poppies yet to be sponsored and attached before the netting is installed prior to the Remembrance Day parade on Sunday, 12th November.
