Walkden Street multi-storey car park will re-open in full on 11th May, following extensive improvements, including wider parking bays and major repairs.
Currently, the first two levels (1A and 1B) are open. However, levels 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B will also be open for business from 11th May.
The new layout includes 359 extra wide parking bays, 4 standard bays, 25 disabled bays and 5 motorcycle bays, making a total of 368 spaces.
Although there has been a reduction in the number of spaces, the new wider bays will make the car park more family-friendly to parents with young children and ideal for larger vehicles.
Other improvements include structural repairs, waterproofing, redecoration and improved lighting. The metal panels and railings on the inside and outside of the car park have also been repainted to improve the overall appearance of the area.
The entrance and exit remain in the same positions, but the layout has been changed to improve traffic flow and new signs have been installed.
The council’s Shopmobility service will continue to operate from the Four Seasons multi-storey car park for the foreseeable future.
Martyn Thurman, Head of Neighbourhood Services at Mansfield District Council, said: “We are delighted that Walkden Street car park will be back in operation, following extensive improvements.
“The extra wide bays provide huge benefits for drivers and will make parking and accessibility easier for people with young children and babies, as well as drivers of large vehicles. We would like to thank people for their patience while the work has been taking place.”
