Calls to reopen rail line

Bolsover MP Mark Fletcher has written to Ashfield District Council, supporting the proposed re-opening of the Maid Marian Line that would see Pinxton and Selston Station open years after it closed.

The Maid Marian Line closed to commercial passengers back in the 1960s as part of the Beeching Cuts in the UK and with it Pinxton and Selston’s railway station. However, over the course of the last few years there have been growing calls to reinstate these old lines.

Mark  has joined those calling for the reopening of the Maid Marian Line by writing to Ashfield District Council, highlighting the benefits it would bring to Pinxton.

He said Pinxton currently suffers from a lack of quality regular transport links into the town and is relatively isolated from nearby areas and the wider East Midlands. Reopening the line would provide a link into the town and provide better work and leisure opportunities.

This is just one of a number of transport links Mark has been working to improve throughout the Bolsover constituency, including working on the Shirebrook Link Road and extending the Robin Hood Train Line.

Commenting on the project, Mark said: “These plans have the potential to make a really positive difference to Pinxton and residents that live in the town. I know that there have been discussions about re-opening the line for a while and so I want to do all that I can to make sure the line is reopened.

“It fits into the wider work we’re trying to do throughout the Bolsover constituency improving infrastructure and rail links throughout the wider region. I’m also determined to work with colleagues towards getting the Robbin Hood Line Extended to provide better links to Shirebrook.

“Levelling up the Bolsover constituency will be dependent on making sure that we improve our transport and infrastructure links to encourage businesses to come and set up and invest in our region.”
