Calendar marks group’s centenary

Mansfield woman Kam Britland has been elected president of Soroptimists International Midlands East.

Kam, a former president of the Mansfield and District Soroptimists, of which she is still a member, decided to use her term of office to raise funds for federation projects.

Among her aims was to commemorate the movement’s centenary year, including with a calendar featuring the 12 regional clubs. The project has raised more than £1,600,

Kam said: “I canvassed all the clubs, seeking their aid in supplying relevant material for the compilation of the calendar.

“That involved obtaining the photographs and content to the satisfaction of each member club. It was a task that ensured that I got to know the club officers and members in a way that will be beneficial during my term as president from 2020 to 2021.

“This has given me an insight into collaborative working with other regional members, which ordinarily I would not have had the opportunity to.

“Much to our dismay, the coronavirus pandemic set in and we had to figure out a positive way to reconnect with our members, using technology and phone calls.

“The process took a few months during (the first) Covid lockdown and significant planning and effort to draw the various strands together.”
