Busy time for Rotarians

Posted onPosted on 21st Nov

Members of Kirkby Rotary Club are helping to bring Christmas cheer to the community while raising money for charities.

On Saturday, November 26th, Santa’s Grotto opens at Reuben Shaw’s garden centre, Moor Green, where Santa will be ready with a warm welcome for families every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am until 4 pm up to Christmas. This year the main charity to benefit will be Kirkby’s Forget-Me-Not Dementia Support Group.

The club has organised a Senior Citizens’ Concert by Stephen Fowkes, organist, at Trinity Methodist Church, Kirkby, on Thursday December 1st starting at 7pm. Entrance is by ticket only, but the ticket is free – speak to any Kirkby Rotarian or ring 07548 694 937.

Tuesdays December 6th and 13th will see the club’s Santa’s Sleigh on the streets of Kirkby. The club will also be present at the Kirkby Christmas Carnival on December 9th in the Festival Hall.

Rotarians with members of other local community groups will stage a second annual Big Christmas Sleep-out on Kirkby town centre’s plaza, on Saturday 17th December, from 10pm to 6am equipped with only a plastic sheet, a sleeping bag and a cardboard box, they will be raising money to support the many homeless on the streets of Nottingham.

Anyone who would like to join the Sleep-out, or indeed help with any part of the programme, please contact the Rotary club on 07548 694 937 or via their website www.rotary1220.org/kia

Rotarian Philip Hurt, president of the club (on the far left in the photo), commented: “Once again Kirkby Rotary is pulling out all the stops to help the community enjoy Christmas. It’s aimed at a wide range of people and we intend supporting some very worthwhile charities.

“Rotarians work hard all year for their community but also have lots of fun doing so. Perhaps you might like to join us and help too? Why not give us a call and ask about becoming a Rotarian? Have a safe and wonderful Christmas.”
