The drawing of a six-year-old school pupil has been brought to life and turned into a fire-rated door by Doorcerts Manufacturing Ltd.
The Stanton Hill company held a competition at St Andrew’s Primary School, Skegby, to highlight pathways into manufacturing and construction — with a particular emphasis on job roles for women.
Youngsters were asked to design their own fire-rated door to show that they don’t have to be blank and industrial looking.
The winning design — four coloured love hearts finished with two pink stripes — has been transformed into a door that will be fitted at the firm’s new-look reception and presentation area later this year.
Michelle Haydon, the mother of competition winner Maisy (pictured with Doorcerts staff member Robbie Savage), said: “I’m so proud, she did a wonderful design and to see it come to life is lovely. To see how excited Maisy was makes me happy.
“I did wonder how her drawing would come out on a door, and it looks even better than I first imagined.”
