An Ashfield charity’s work has received a boost from Mansfield Building Society’s Community Support Scheme.
Ashfield Voluntary Action (AVA), which provides support to other voluntary sector groups and also supports individuals and families through a range of projects, has built a shed — with construction students from West Notts College — at Harcourt Street Allotments, Kirkby, thanks to the £1,176 donation.
The shed and covered veranda will provide seating and shelter for all allotment users.
Students built the shed from scratch with materials provided by AVA, using the donation from The Mansfield.
Vickie Preston, of the building society, said: “As an employer we support local organisations with volunteering hours allocated to all staff, so a project that brings the volunteering sector together with students who will be our next generation of skilled construction workers is something we didn’t hesitate to fund.”
AVA Step By Step co-ordinator Sylvia Porter added: “Thanks to the very generous donation from the Mansfield Building Society, we were not only able to provide shelter and secure storage for allotment users, we were also able to provide hands-on training to construction students.”
