Boost for dementia ward appeal

The Voluntary Services Team at Sherwood Forest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (SFHFT) has donated £15,000 to support the refurbishment of the dementia ward at King’s Mill Hospital.

The money was been raised at stalls and charity events at King’s Treatment Centre, King’s Mill Hospital.

Catherine Cheyne, project manager of the Ward 52 refurbishment, said: “This is a fantastic donation and demonstrates the commitment and hard work of our volunteers and the enormous generosity of the staff, patients and visitors who have supported the events.

“This is a huge step towards our target, but we still need much more to guarantee we can fund the state-of-the-art facilities our patients need.”

The project team needs to raise a total of £325,000 to fully fund the ward, which will feature:

Innovative lighting.
Colour-coded design to help patients identify areas of the ward.
Safety flooring to reduce slips and falls.
Sensory rooms to stimulate and/or calm patients.
Memory walls to engage patients’ long-term memories.
Flexible nurse stations to allow staff to monitor patients more effectively.

Dr Steve Rutter, clinical lead for geriatrics at SFHFT, said: “It’s vital that we continue to get support from the charitable fund and local people to deliver these exciting improvements for our patients. We are o grateful for the support of our voluntary services.”
